Butterfield Canyon's Safe Walking Routes map

Butterfield Canyon Elementary’s Safety Committee has outlined safe walking routes for students to follow when walking to school. Please carefully review all the information on the Safe Walking Route Map and the Parking Lot Procedures Map. It is very important for every child to know the safest walking paths. We advise parents to make several “practice” runs with their children so they can feel confident and know the safest places to walk to and from school.

Please make note of the following procedures:

NORTH of the school: On the north side of Gina use sidewalks and crosswalks towards the crosswalk at Gina Rd and Erin Loop. Only cross south on Gina Rd. at the crosswalk at Gina and Erin Loop with the assistance of the crossing guard. On the south side of Gina Rd. use sidewalks and crosswalks towards the fence opening on the back of the school.

WEST of the school: Follow sidewalks and pathways that feed into McCuiston if coming from west of 7300 W. Cross with the assistance of the crossing guard at 7300 W. and McCuiston. Follow the sidewalk on the north side of McCuiston towards Erin Loop, then use the sidewalk to cross to the south side of McCuiston or head to the crosswalk on the north side of Erin Loop. With the assistance of the crossing guard at Erin Loop and Gina cross to the east side of Erin Loop and follow the sidewalk towards the fence opening at the back of the school. Another option is to cross at the 3-way stop at Erin Loop and Mary Leizan, with the assistance of the crossing guard. Students should access school property using the first available sidewalk on the southwest corner of the property. Do not continue on the sidewalk, crossing the bus entrance and exit.

EAST of the school: Use sidewalks and crosswalks towards recommended routes that feed into Blayde, Kyle Earl or Mary Leizan. Look to cross at intersections with 4-way stop signs whenever possible. There is a crossing guard located at the 4-way intersection of Mary Leizan and Kyle Earl.

SOUTH of the school:
Feeding onto Rose Canyon: Use sidewalks and crosswalks towards the crossing guard located at Rose Canyon and Ivie Farms Rd.
Feeding onto Butterfield Park Way: Follow the sidewalk segments on Butterfield Park Way east towards the 4-way stop. Head north towards the manned 3-way stop sign using the sidewalk on the east end of 6400 W. Cross onto the north side of Rose Canyon Rd and follow sidewalks towards the school, only crossing the street at controlled 4-way stop signed intersections.
From Hamilton Farms: Use sidewalks and crosswalks towards recommended routes that feed into Kyle Earl, Steve, Travis Boyd, Mary Leizan, and Blayde
From Ivie Farms: Use sidewalks and crosswalks towards the paved sidewalk near the playground, then follow sidewalks towards the manned 4-way intersection at Mary Leizan and Kyle Earl.
From Davin View Dr. or Indian Hollow Ln.: Until a better option is provided by the city, students walking from this neighborhood can use horse trail path towards the manned crosswalk at Rose Canyon and 6400 W. With the assistance of the crossing guard, cross to the north side of Rose Canyon then follow safe walking routes along Blayde towards the school.
